A silent sentry was stationed outside the elder's den, all rigid shoulders and glaring pale green eyes. Though Eeltail was old and the only elder, he sat with a pride and importance as though guarding a den of precious clanmates. Truth be told it was simply a way for him to observe camp and feel like a part of it all. He spent most days now in his den, curled wearily in his nest with no one but pesky apprentices to snap at. But today he felt enough energy in his old bones to sit outside and enjoy the feeble morning sun. As camp awoke around him, he watched through squinted, serious eyes.
Eeltail didn't know what had happened to his clan. So much time had passed and most faces he saw now were only vaguely familiar. In his own clan Eeltail was a stranger. With a sigh he sank to his belly, still watching the hustle and bustle of younger cats.
Pinesong exited the nursery, her flanks were very clearly round at this point. She was due soon, and therefore, pretty much confined to camp. She had never imagined being stuck in camp would be this boring, but yet, it was. Her pale blue gaze scanned the camp, looking for someone to talk to, but alas, everyone was busy with their duties. Her gaze came to a rest on Eeltail. He'd gotten even grumpier than she last remembered, but she walked over to him anyway. "Hello, Eeltail, nice day today, huh?" she asked in a friendly but slightly unsure tone.

Eeltail was ready to growl and send away whoever spoke to him, he wasn't exactly known for his hospitality. But then his old blurry eyes focused and recognized the cat in front of him. Pinesong, he thought, a queen. No matter his rotten temper, he had a soft spot for the kits and, by extension, their mothers. Though he had never once personally spoken to Pinesong he had heard of her and had her pointed out to him. He was almost positive that was her name, but Eeltail didn't like setting himself up to be embarrassed, so he simply shuffled and made a non-committal "hmpf" sound and grumbled with only a touch of his usual coldness, "nice day! It's a cold one, youngin'."
