Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The fluffy white she-cat braced herself as she stood at the mouth of the medicine cat's den, looking out over the rest of the camp. It was familiar to her as the back of her paw, she'd explored it when she was younger, and in a way it was like no time had passed. But the angle she viewed things was wrong, she was too tall, and it was a constant reminder of the time that had passed. Carvedkit had been a little more than a moon old when she'd been found curled up and unresponsive, and for the moons to follow she had been deep in a coma, fed by parents desperate to keep her alive, until finally she woke, seven moons old.
Carvedkit hesitated, then placed a black paw tentatively outside. She crept into the clearing and looked around the camp, ready to explore for the first time after so many moons, but she had no idea where to start.
"Look out!" Came a cry of warning as a silver and brown furred kitten skidded toward Carvedkit in an attempt to avoid collision. Unfortunately, his warning came to late. Mudkit found himself tumbling in a ball of paws and tails with Carvedkit until finally landing with an "oof" on his chin. He first lifted his head, feeling dizzy and gave it a good shake before realizing what had happened. He shot to his paws and spun around to see he had tumbled right into the kit that had been held up in the nursery for moons. He had never met the kit before but had heard stories of her and had seen her in the medicine den. His heart was pounding in both embarrassment and fear that he may have just broken her. "Oh great Moon God! Are you alright? I'm so so sorry!" He helped her rise to her paws. Mudkit was about the size of Carvedkit, perhaps a bit smaller. He was due any day now for his apprentice ceremony.
Carvedkit's eyes widened as she stepped into the path of the other cat and was sent tumbling beside him. She fell back against the ground with a hard huff as the wind was knocked out of her and flopped over onto her side with a groan. She was frozen at first, her sides huffing for breath as she stared ahead, but gradually she realized she was okay. She was still here, aware and awake, and as she tentatively wiggled her toes she could still move. She stood up and tentatively shook out her paws. "I-I think I'm okay," she murmured, blinking up at the other kit. He looked a little familiar, but she couldn't remember his name, if she had ever known it.
"Um... are you okay? I didn't know I was getting in your way."
"I'm fine" he purred, relieved to see that she was okay. "You dont need to apologize! I'm the one that wasn't paying attention!" he paused and gave her a quick look up and down. "Your awake! No one ever expected this!" He, then, bounced around her, examining each detail. "What did the medicine cat say?"
No one ever expected this? Carvedkit blinked back the tears starting to form in her eyes. The coma had scared her family, but she hadn't realized they had given up on her ever waking up again. She had been gone a long time, though...
She shook her head slightly and tried a smile. "He doesn't know what happened to be or why I woke up," she admitted, "but he said I'm healthy now. All things considered." She was still thin and her coat faded instead of glossy, but after being stuck in one place so long, she was lucky she was in decent shape at all.
He saw the hurt in her eyes and instantly regretting his words. He twitched his ears and searched for the right words to say. He wished he could tell her that it was nice to have her back but he didnt know her and was very young when she had gone into a coma. He cleared his throat, "n-name's Mudkit, by the way." He lowered his ears and gave an embarrassed smile, raising his shoulders and a paw and peering at her with wide, round eyes. He looked cute and innocent in a charming sort of way.
"Oh.... hi, Mudkit. I'm Carvedkit.... you probably already knew that." She blinked shyly, glancing away from the other tom. She was grateful he'd given her his name so she didn't have to ask, but she didn't know what to say now. Was it going to be like this with everyone? "I really am sorry for interrupting you," she murmured, "and getting in your way. You were running pretty fast, you must have been in a hurry..." and i'm still here, standing in your way...
"No, no! It was my fault" he chuckled, kicking himself for bumping into her. "I was just playing tag with my littermates over there." He pointed with his tail to where his littermates were now tossing a moss ball around. "I swear, even though they are close to being apprentices, they act more like kits than I do." He let out a laugh knowing all to well how childish he could be. "You can tell they've already forgotten we were in the middle of a game." His whiskers twitched with amusement before he turned to face Carvedkit again. "Its a pleasure to meet you, though, Carvedkit! If your hungry, we could share something together and I can catch you up on anything you missed!"
Carvedkit looked over at the group and then back at him, and was grateful he didn't seem upset she had interrupted his game. Instead she found herself laughing softly at his joke. "I'd like that," she told him. "I haven't had prey in moons. We were so busy this morning I didn't get anything to eat yet." As a timely reminder her stomach let out a loud, fierce rumble, scarier than her growl. The white she-cat felt her ears grow hot in embarrassment.
"I don't know." She shook her head with a soft laugh. "Maybe I used to like them.... but I doubt it! It was nasty. I hope we don't eat frogs a lot around here, I can't stand it."
Mudkit laughed, "oh no! Frogs are icky!" He stuck his tongue out in disgust. "What we have are forest prey and occasionally a few fish! I personally like the taste of mouse!" He swiped his tongue around his lips as he imagined himself biting into a warm flavorful mouse.
Carvedkit looked greatly relieved. "Oh, good! I've had a few mice before, they're pretty tasty. Maybe we should eat one of those," she suggested, "if there are any."
"There's a spot over there near the elder's den. There's a sunny spot where it's the warmest!" He pointed with his tail over to the elder's den. "See that rock over there? It heats up in the sun! If we are lucky, it still may be warm from the day time! Come on!" He picked up the mouse and bounded over to the stone. He touched it with his paw and some heat still radiating off of it. "Its still warm!" He jumped up on it and settled down, making room for Carvedkit.
Warmth was welcome to Carvedkit; her skinny frame didn't hold much heat. She needed to be on a healthy diet again before leafbare came in full force. She hurried after the other kit with her strange loping gait, like her legs weren't the same size, or the muscles on one side were sagging when they should be straight, and joined him by the stone. She placed both forepaws on the stone and felt it radiate heat beneath her pads just like it had for him. "Woah, it really is warm," she marveled as she scrambled ungracefully after him. She nearly tumbled off the stone before she caught her balance and stood with her legs wide apart and tail waving.
