Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The morning had dawned crisp and clear, the first hint of true Leaffall weather present in the nippy air. Bee had sought out Thistlemask a day or two before, wanting to speak to him again, but he had been running off on another one of his errands. He had promised her that they could do a border patrol this morning, to catch up and so Bee could process her first week in camp. The diminutive ginger she-cat waited for the Deputy by the camp exit, peering up as the lavender sky brightened and lightened to a cool blue.
There was a lot going on in her brain, but her heart still managed to do an erratic thump when Thistlemask came into view. Bee stood, offering him a sleepy, small smile. “Good morning,” she said, tilting her head. “Ready to go?”
t had been a week since Bee arrived to Springclan and Thistlemask had yet to speak to her other than a far off distant smile or nod. His responsibilities as a Deputy kept the tom rather busy leaving him little free time to catch up with Bee and it was frustrating. Everything in him felt a personal responsibility for Bee and his inability to make time for her or catch her in his own spare time sprouted a seed of guilt in him that grew bigger each and everyday. He couldn't stop thinking of her.
Today he would redeem himself. Bee managed to pull him aside for a few moments from his focus a few days prior, but he was on the run. He did know vow to make time for her some days later. Even though it was time spent on a border patrol, he purposely made it so that the two had time alone, without any other cat interupting him as usual with updates, plans or suggestions.
Thistlemask long and deep and long stretch off his mossy bed, cautious and quiet not to wake up the sleeping Trusted group whom he shared a den with. He still was not used to the smaller and more personal den. Growing up, it was a crowded and loud room of warrior he would share a den with.
The dusty tom stepped out, his sharp eyes immediately locating the ginger colored she-cat across the camp, awaiting him at the entrance. As he made his way towards he, he couldn't help but notice her relaxed frame, her sleepy but peaceful gaze. What a difference a week of clan life made on a cat. It was refreshing to see.
His gaze probably lingered far too long as he approached Bee, returning her smile with his own small and sleepy smile. "Good morning." Thistlemask's brows furrowed slightly with concern "I am. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." His deep hollow voice was slow and slightly groggy with the remnants of sleep that remained.

“No, you’re fine, I wasn’t waiting long,” she told him, rolling out the tension in her legs before starting out of camp. The new territory hadn’t taken terribly long for her to adjust to, and she set off for the boundary at a leisurely pace. The birds were chattering above them, peppered among the branches.
“So, you neglected to tell me that you were the second in command around here,” she commented lightly, sending a leaf skittering as she walked. She wasn’t quite sure how she felt about his position- her past in Jay’s group made her naturally mistrust cats in power, but she felt, somehow, that Thistlemask was different.
Good." He smiled, moving forward with Bee as the two ventured outward into Springclan territory. The dusty tom sighed softly, taking in the peaceful surroundings with quiet pride, noting the smallest of movements. It was a nice change of pace for the tom. Often, his ventures out, there was a strong but silent mode he had to take while with his clan mates, exuding the sharpest image of a dutiful deputy as he could muster, but with Bee, he felt more at ease. There was no need to be the deputy as the she-cat had little to no expectations of his role since this world was still so new for her. He could be more relaxed, more him and it was nice.
Her accusation caused a large smile to grow across his expression. Thistlemask looked down with some poor attempt to hide his embarrassment. He knew this moment would have come soon, just not this soon.
" I was sure your initial knowledge of that would have intimidated you more than you were already when we first met." Thistlemask spoke, glancing away past the trees and bushes, avoiding any and all eye contact with Bee in attempt to cool down from his flustered state. "Besides, you didn't need to know, it is not an important piece of information."
“No, I’m glad you didn’t flaunt it or throw it around to intimidate me,” she told him truthfully, something she’d already decided after puzzling over his decision to keep his position low key. “I think that makes me respect you more. But you better not start acting all high and mighty after this,” Bee warned him with a smile.
“It threw me at first, because I’ve had bad experiences with leadership. But I think power corrupts only when cats are corrupt to begin with, which I don’t think you are. So don’t prove my theory wrong.”
histlemask grew hot at Bee's compliment. It wasn't the tom's first compliment. Sure he got compliments here and there but his humble nature never really allowed compliments to get to his head, but from Bee it felt different.
He laughed off the emotions, his eyes flickering in Bee's way before refocusing back on the trail ahead "I don't know. I feel more inclined to gloat now that you are showering me with all these compliments." He snickered.
"Just like any commodity in life, wether it be power, time, love-" he paused for a moment as his heart raced at the sound of the word "You can corrupt anything resourceful or good if there is ill intention. The same goes for vice versa." The words came out heavy with thought "Like any other cat you see in this clan, I am just doing my best."
(cutieee) “Wise words,” she said, raising her brow. “But I don’t even know if there is good love out there, at least not for me.” Bee’s ears flattened briefly, and she fought down the flash of pain in her chest. Her parents must have loved her, but they had been killed before she could remember them. And Jay had loved her like a toy to play with.
“Don’t listen to me, though, I’m a cynic,” she laughed, a little too roughly. “I’m just still recovering from some stuff. I’m sure there’s someone out there who will love you, and the good Springclan cats.”
oncern grew in the tom as he heard out the she-cat though his naturally serious expression did not show it. "Of course their is." Thistlemask spoke up confidently, his green eyes latched onto Bee with honest intent "Love, like power can be twarted for bad if the intentions are bad making it poisonous, but when you meet someone whose intentions are good, love can grow you." His eyes slowly veered off as he spoke, thinking deeply as the words slowly fell out, careful to make his point clear. "You'll find it one day, I know it." He murmured, staring back at the she-cat, his eyes softening. "I've heard of overdramatic claims of loveless futures from other cats, but I've learned you aren't one for theatrics." A sudden weariness and carefulness fell on the tom suddenly as his next thoughts began to materialize into words on his tongue "It makes me wonder what you could have possibly gone through to make you feel this way..."
"Did Jay have to do with making you feel this way?" For once in the tom's life, his words rang before his mind could catch it. He flinched the moment the realization hit him and he stopped in his tracks "I'm sorry." He added, his hollow voice deepening with shame "I spoke too abruptly. Please, don't feel obligated to answer, because you aren't."
(ooOoOo) Bee flicked an ear back, agreeing with his claim. “You’re right, I’m not really theatrical. I’m just being bitter for a bit.” The wound was fresh, making her act more hardened than she really was. She had no doubt that in time she would soften again.
She stopped when he did, not at all startled by his forwardness. She had grown up in a group with no transparency, so watching the clan cats skirt around questions was a new experience. “I don’t mind answering,” she told him sincerely. Her honey-hued eyes met his, and they still held some tiny measure of hurt. “You can ask me anything you want- I pride myself on being honest. Jay was the one who hurt me, yes.”
histlemask silently held Bee's gaze, searching in the pair of honey colored eyes for confirmation of her words finding nothing but honesty. He nodded a short, small nod of understanding, thought everything in his being reminded him to be respectful despite given a green light into the she-cat's world.
"I'm sorry." He spoke genuinely, slowly picking his pace back up. "Was that the reason why you left?" Again, he felt everything in his core shake in defiance of his new found bluntness, but he ignored, his eyes never leaving the she-cat as he asked.
“Yes,” she confirmed, and where she would normally feel anger and pain, Thistlemask’s gaze locked on hers made her feel strangely warm and safe. Bee dismissed it as knowing she had an honest friend to confide in, and elaborated on her statement.
“What Jay did... was a betrayal that was years in the making. From kithood he had been lying to me, trying to mold me and perfect me through the idea that I owed him. When I found out the truth, I couldn’t stay. I would have killed him, and I wanted to do the right thing. So I left.”
he dusty tom's serious expression was still as he listened on, his green eyes sharpening as a general picture was painted in his mind. The story made sense now to the she-cat's mistrusting natural and attitude upon first meeting.
"I am sure what he did must have weighed extremely heavy on you." The deep voice spoke out "But, it was courageous to have done what you done. It takes true strength to have fought those kind of emotions to do the right thing. It takes more to risk it all and embrace a lifestyle foreign to you." He offered a small smile "We can all learn a lot from you." The words came out rather serious, but dripping in pure honesty. This statement made the Tom's gaze pull away as his pensive green eyes stared ahead to nothing, but strangely focused as the gears in the tom's mind worked. "I have pride in my clan, that no cat can ever challenge." He stated proudly "But I feel we as a clan have gone soft, comfortable of the grand life we and so many others before us have worked hard to accomplish." He paused, the words heavy as they rolled off his tongue "There is much still to grow, and I genuinely believe that your presence here matched with your experiences and attitude will bring a much needed dynamic to this clan." He gaze fell back on the ginger she-cat, his gaze steeled.
Bee felt a little abashed under his praise, her ears growing hot. "Yeah, we'll see," she said in an attempt to laugh it off, before growing a tad more serious. "But thank you. That means a lot, coming from you." It was true- from any other cat the praise would have seemed insincere, but Thistlemask now knew a bit of who she was, and he respected it. That made her feel slightly... squishy? was that the word?... inside. It was unnerving.
"I like that you want to make the clan better," she told him in return, the edges of her eyes crinkling as she smiled slightly. "Growth is always a good thing. Where I was, it was stagnant, and stagnant water is the kind that becomes toxic. I feel like you'll be one to make this clan strong and proud, as you want it to be."
histlemask noted the moment of fluster in Bee, his serious expression doing a great job at hiding the smile he held back as he watched Bee laugh away only to turn serious in her response. Her rather honest and seemingly personal admission threw Thistlemask off, his tattered ear twitching as he replayed Bee's words. 'Coming from you' Thistlemask repeated, his heart having a sudden jump as the words echoed in his mind. He couldn't quite decipher the intent in those words, but the only thing the tom was sure of was how great it felt to hear how highly Bee thought of him. His head dropped slightly as he took a moment to compose the excitement building in his chest.
The emotions only grew as Bee continued on, causing his green orbs to return onto Bee, softening as he listened on. Self confidence was something Thistlemask never struggled with simple because he knew he always did his best. With the grace of Starclan, he thouroughly believed in himself and his abilities to lead as a Deputy, but there was something about having someone speak out on faith on you that left a different thread on your soul.
Thistlemask blinked in awe, watching Bee silently for a few moments before chuckling softly. " It is a clan effort. If it will be done, it would be thanks to the clan as a whole, not me." His deep voice was quiet as his eyes drifted away shyly.
"It's a clan effort, but a little inspiration and a role model never hurt anyone," Bee smiled once more before realizing how close she'd drifted to him while they walked. Her shoulder almost brushed his, and quite suddenly that was much too close for comfort. Bee cleared her throat, trying to shift the focus. "Hey, how about we race to see who can catch a bit of prey first, huh?" Bee asked, eager to show off her hunting skills- she had some unconventional hunting methods. "Or maybe get the coolest piece of prey?"
Truthfully, Bee was unused to heart to heart conversations like this. She was accustomed to blunt honesty and crude jokes, teasing and roughhousing. No one talked much about their emotions where she had grown up, and this was an entirely new experience. It wasn't uncomfortable, not with Thistlemask, but it was unnerving how easily she could talk to him.
Thistlemask kept his leafy gaze around his surroundings, his stern face softened as he listened to Bee's words, but he steeled his gaze more in feverish attempt to hide the small giddiness that was growing within. The offer to race was like a fresh and cool breeze of air on a hot summer's day. Thistlemask couldn't help but sigh softly in relief. A good sprint would definitely help calm his excited senses and bring him back down to earth.
"So what prize will I get when I win?" Thistlemask remarked with confidence, his signature cool side smirk growing as he finally turned to face Bee, stopping in his tracks as his sharp eyes brightened with a light of fierce competitiveness.
"Well, you won't win, so get that wishful thinking out of your head," Bee responded with a growing grin, tilting her head as she looked at him. "Hypothetically speaking, though, if you were to win, what would you want?" Competitive as she was, she was a good-natured loser, and wouldn't begrudge him a prize. But Bee was confident in her own skills, having spent most of her life running and hunting (not so much fighting, though).
Of course she had never raced against anyone who made her heart do weird flip-flops in her chest. Though that wasn't important, right?
Thistlemask didn't hold back his smirk, pausing for a moment to think long a hard. He hadn't really thought of anything prior to his comment, but it didn't take too long for him to find an answer "When I win-" He stressed heavily before continuing, his smirk dimming slightly as he took a moment to pause "You have to join me on a walk tonight to the Japanese Gardens." He paused, his eyes softening slightly as he took in Bee before realizing he had gone on far too long with his staring "I'd love to give you the tour as I am sure you have yet to visit there." He cleared his throat, glancing off nonchalantly in poor attempt to dwindle the racing in his chest. "Its one of Springclan most treasured territories."
A walk alone with the deputy to a beautiful location? It was flattering, and the idea made Bee smile as Thistlemask looked at her, though when he looked away she felt slightly shaky. It was probably exhaustion, she told herself. "If you win I'd be happy to accompany you," she told him, whiskers twitching. She didn't ask for anything if she won- she felt that Thistlemask had already given her plenty.
"So, a running race or a prey-hunting race? Gentleman's choice," she offered him graciously, looking ahead to steady herself. She could win both, she knew, but for some reason she didn't want to win anymore.
Thistlemask thought hard on the choices. He knew his strengths served well in both areas, but he had to be strategic. The stakes were too high to lose. "A running race." He spoke up, his eyes scanning the terrain for a moment. "The starting point will be there, at the foot of that large oak." His mind reeled as it took a visual memory of Springclan territory. "Do you remember the northern border, the one that the stream crosses? That will be our finishing line."
