Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Bee hesitated on the border, letting the strong clan scent drift into her nostrils. This was the threshold, the last chance to change her mind and turn around. But she couldn't- she couldn't go back to Jay, or she would kill him. And she couldn't proceed in life, or Jay would find her. So joining this forsaken... clan thing was her last option.
She exhaled between her teeth, whiskers twitching, before moving forward into what she would soon discover was Springclan territory. "Hellooooooo... anyone home?" Bee called loudly, with a voice that was a tad deep for a she-cat of her small stature. Her ginger form wound between trees, pushing deeper into the territory. Soon she would become a threat and they would have to talk to her.
"Are you all hard-of-hearing?" Bee's voice rose to louder volumes, her rich honey eyes on the lookout. "Trespasser here! Intruder alert! Stranger danger!"
tattered ear flickered slightly as it picked up the noisy cry of a unknown cat, but sharp deep green eyes had been watching the intruder the moment she spoke up. It was clear to the tom that this cat was far from a threat. No other scents had been detected, this particular border had been quiet for a long time. Intrigue grew in the tom as he silently followed along side the she-cat in the shadows, studying her movements and words. To any other inexperienced cat, they would naturally assume this intruder was just begging for a death wish, but there was something calculated about this plan, but what Thistlemask could not figure out. His already narrowed eyes seemed to narrow more as the she-cat stepped deeper, shortening her adventures as the large tom quickly began his ascent. Muscles visibly clenched as the tom placed his weight on his back haunched before launching himself forward, tackling the she-cat to her side and with one swift and powerful movement, he had the she cat pinned. "Care to explain your intrusion?" Thistlemask's voice was deep and resounding and managed to maintain and eeriely calm yet threatening tone as his piercing orbs took in the she-cat's honey ones.
Bee felt the air slam out of her chest as the tom made contact, and she felt a flash of irritation that she hadn't noticed him sooner. Perhaps if her emotional state hadn't been so frazzled, she would have had the common sense to look around. The she-cat let the tom pin her for a moment before she tired of the game.
"Get off me, you great oaf-" Her small ginger form flashed in a movement that made her momentarily look like a wiggling fish, and she extricated herself from beneath his paws. Almost quicker than seemed possible, Bee was a foot away, back on her feet and looking head-on at the strange tom. She made no move to attack, not in the mood for a fight; instead she sat, wrapping her tail over her front paws. "There's no need for physicality. I'm not here for a fight. I would like to join whatever... this is." She jutted her chin out to indicate she meant Springclan as a whole, though she lacked the proper clan vocabulary.
he she-cat's pathetic flailing caught the tom in internally laugh, though his stern expression gave no hint to the inner turmoil that ensued. His grasp loosened as the she-cat managed to squirm her way out from under Thistlemask's weight. As expected from the overwhelming hints leading up to it, the she-cat sat unapologetically revealing to the tom that there was no serious intent to fight. Her following words only further confirmed the stained tom's observations.
"'Whatever this is' does not have an open door policy." Thistlemask spoke, his eyes never leaving the she-cat as his declaration was produced into the air. " I am afraid you will have to return back to what ever loner group you seem to be running from." He added as a matter of factly, a small smirk growing at the corners of his muzzle as he noted her shock and confusion of his observation.
That gave Bee a moment's pause, her expression flickering slightly as she thought. Finally she spoke again, tossing her small chin up in the air in a proud gesture. Thistlemask's insufferable smirk made her honey gaze take on an even more determined gleam.
"I'm not going anywhere until I speak to the cat in charge, which I don't think you are. I'm sure I have talents that will be an asset to your group, and I don't take kindly to being turned away based on whatever prejudice you seem to have against me," Bee said, her expression still as she stared down the tom opposite her.
ntrigue plagued the tom's mind as he watched the small she-cat take her stance, her body growing a bit taller as her body straightened up with visible pride and naive but admirable determination. As Thistlemask watched unfazed, he couldn't help but question the she-cat's reason. It was clear she rather face a fight with a clan member or worse death to go back to where she came from, it made him wonder how desperate the she-cat was.
"If it were only so easy to walk into one of the most protected and fortified camps around." Thistlemask noted indifferently, his green eyes unwavered as they held on to the stubborn she-cat's fiercely determined gaze. "What makes you think you are good enough to command the attention of 'the cat in charge'?" Thistlemask spoke, the foreign phrase feeling odd on his tongue.
This tom's equal opposition made Bee's eye twitch, partly because she was used to getting what she wanted and partly because she wanted this so deeply. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes, settling for a slow exhale instead. "I'm a fair fighter and a very good hunter, and apart from that I'm very familiar with loner territory just outside the borders," Bee explained, wondering why this tom was so gung-ho about not letting her talk to his leader.
"I can't imagine that your group would turn away a young, able-bodied, food-gathering cat. Especially with leafbare approaching. I'd be a help, not a hindrance." Bee's tail swept behind her slowly as she spoke.
histlemask took in the young she-cat with silent judgement, nothing her body movement. It wasn't uncommon for this event to happen. Springclan has had it's times of taking in non-clan cats, but always with precaution. This situation would be no different.
"I'm sure your gracious and giving attitude would just shine so brightly in Springclan," Thistlemask boomed, rising to his paws slowly and taking a forward step towards the she-cat, his small smirk melting away into a serious scowl, the playfulness in the tom's spring green eyes steeling as he made his way forward with no hesitation. "But I would appreciate a more... honest reason why I should give you the opportunity to enter my home." The tom stopped just within one tail length of the she-cat, the closed distance highlighted the tom's true, tall height.
Bee held her posture as the tom approached, steeling the determination in her honey-hued gaze. She was a little off-put that she had to raise her gaze as he approached, being on the shorter side herself. Her tail stilled as she contemplated how much to reveal to this stranger, how much of the fury and grief that currently churned under the surface she could expose to convince him of her somewhat misguided sincerity.
"I wasn't lying," she said after a moment, nose wrinkling. "I don't lie, there's just more to the story. I had a disagreement with Jay- the leader of the group I'm from. It was pretty serious, and I was so mad that I could've killed him. I didn't want to, so I left." She shrugged, exhaling slightly. "I don't want him to come after me, so I figured joining another group would be my best bet. Your lot seems honorable enough, though not very welcoming." Bee gave him a look. "That's the whole story, really."
histlemask stared at the gingered-colored she-cat, his stern expression hiding his genuine concern well as the tom silently listened on, taking in the few details to heart. As predicted, the she-cat was not looking for trouble.
"Forgive the interpretation of my welcome," Thistlemask said, another small smile creeping just slightly at the edge of his mouth "You must understand, when there are cat's whose protection lies in your paws, you can never be too cautious of vetting outsiders." He backed off the she-cat, giving her the space he knew she wanted, noting the tension throughout the she-cat's body.
"What is your name?" He asked calmly, despite internally feeling shocked at the fact he had yet to know the she-cats name.
“My name is Bee,” she told him, relaxing when he backed off both physically and verbally. “And I guess I get why you’re so defensive. It’s just different, since my group was so... nonchalant about protecting the cats within it.” And those outside of it, she thought, anger surging back up into her throat. But she shook it off- that was irrelevant right now.
“What’s your name?” She asked in return, feeling her first genuine curiosity about this tom, about who he was and what he stood for. He clearly had this sense of duty and honor about him, which set him distinctly apart from every other tom she’d met.
histlemark blinked inquisitively, his mind painting a picture in his mind of what kind of life the she-cat must have had prior to stepping into Springclan. Having grown up with the lifestyle he did, honoring one's clan was done in many ways, especially putting you life and limb for your clan mates was a given mindset. The comparison allowed the dusty tom to take a moment of quiet appreciation for the life Starclan gave him.
"My name is Thistlemask." He said, offering a larger and more noticable smile. The name was nice and there was an extra sense of comfort and trust gained as Thistlemask placed a name to the face, but his mind still wander, his inner loyalty to his clan still ringing louder. " I am sure you must know right now, Clan life is very different than anything you've experienced out there." Thistlemask glanced out, looking back at the she-cat, his expression melting back into the resting serious face the tom naturally carried. "It is not just living in a clan, it is living for the clan." The words came out slow, as to stress the seriousness behind each syllable. "Your life becomes indebted to the well being of those around you." He paused, giving a few moments for his words to sink in. "It won't be easy, but I have a feeling that I can trust you enough to vouch for your safe entrance to out camp. Our leader will always have a final say in decisions, but if you are sure you can leave your past life behind and learn our ways, I would be willing to personally place my word for you when the time comes."
Bee found herself gravitating to the smile he gave her, letting her delicate features open into a small smile of her own. Even Jay, when he had smiled at her, had seemed somewhat leering and possessive. “Thistlemask is such a long name,” she said with a faint light of amusement in her eyes, before she began seriously considering his words.
“I can value that,” she affirmed after a moment of thought, sincerity coloring her tone. “It’ll take some readjusting, but I can always do what I set my mind to. Thank you... for vouching for me. That’s very kind of you.”
histlemask could hold back his deep and hollow laugh at Bee's comment, his brows furrowing slightly, revealing his pleasant surprise to the funny perspective " Well, at least I don't have a short, funny sounding name." He taunted, his tail flickering in amusement. It had been a while since he got a good hardy laugh. Since rising into position as Deputy, the seriousness of the honor seemed to have watered down his cheerfulness.
Thistlemask relaxed his grin, finding it a bit difficult due to the lingering amusement, he was was internally reminded of his task ahead. "Well then Bee," he paused, the name rolling off tauntingly off his tongue "If you stick by me, I promise you no harm will come to you on our way to camp." He stopped suddenly, his expression turning grim for a moment as he gave Bee a weary stare "Actually, I can't promise your protection from the kits." He added with false concern "I don't know what is in the air, but these litters of kits seem to be infected with a bad case of clingy-itus. I am afraid if they pounce on you I will have no choice but to abandon you and run for my own life."

(they are super cute!!) Bee snorted. “Bee is a respectable, short, easy to remember name,” she protested with a grin, standing up and stretching as Thistlemask continued speaking. She looked faintly concerned as his speech took a grim turn, until she got it, rolling her eyes good-naturedly.
“Hardy har, kittens are terrifying.” She grinned, gesturing with her tail for him to lead the way. “Though to be honest I haven’t been around kits since I was one myself, so you may have to protect me after all.”
histlemask bowed his head slightly shaking it a bit as small breathy chuckles escape through his noise before stepping forward into the forest. His green eyes brighten with a new found burst of energy and he couldn't stop himself. "Oh no, you are on your own I'm afraid." He purred deeply "Last time a kit stuck to me it wouldn't leave for days." He glanced around instinctively, taking in the environment around him, the sights and smells, before proceeding.
"I don't know what our Queens ate while carrying those kits, but the whole lots came with far too much energy and too little self-respect." He joked, but the fondness was clear with each word. As much as he teased about the kits, he would never admit it outloud, but he enjoyed the kits' companies, often more than the older cats.
Bee walked beside him, leaving a few inches between them as they navigated the forest. The scent was unique, many individuals blended in to make one distinct smell. She took it in as best she could, letting her eyes wander the foliage as they walked.
“Ah yes,” she said, pretending like she had any clue what he was saying. “The Queens’ diets may be to blame, but maybe the, uh, Kings had something to do with how they turned out as well.”
histlemask blinked in a small moment of confusion, trying to dissect Bee's words and odd phrasing before realizing what she was attempting to do. Thistlemask help back a grin.
" Oh yes, right, we can't forget the Kings too." Thistlemask played along secretly "But you can't forget about the Gladiators, I mean it's easy to forget about their role as well." His green eyes glanced down and over to the gold-colored she-cat, awaiting with anticipation for her response.
“I wouldn’t forget about the Gladiators,” Bee said very seriously, nodding along. “They play such a key role for the group.” She felt a faint sense of pride that she had guessed a title name correctly, unaware of how naive she was currently making herself seem.
Bee always enjoyed a good laugh, though rarely did she take pleasure in it being at herself. But rather than admit she was clueless about clan life, she had tried to act like she knew it already, so she truly had brought this on herself.
he tom stiffled a hearty laugh. He had gone too far to stop. Besides, Thistlemask couldn't help but bask in the she-cat's oblivious pride that was causing her features to brighten.
"Only the largest and most important role in the clan," Thistlemask fanned "Of course, only next to the Leaf Blowers. I mean, without their perserverance in making sure each and every leaf has been sort in it's appropriate pile, the clan would fall into total and utter chaos." The tom glanced off in the distance, turning his head away from Bee in poor attempt of hiding the huge grin on his face.
