Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In an contrived sequence of coincidences, Peach was once again a Clan leader. Well, not a Clan leader per se - in fact, he was explicitly not a Clan leader, because Absum Lux was a coalition, a collection of rogues and loners whose traditions he barely knew anything about. That would have to change rather quickly, he thought to himself. The prospect of leading for a second time both excited and terrified him. Excited him, for the chance to make up for the mistakes he'd made leading SpringClan, and terrified him, for the chances of merely making those same mistakes again. Still, he had Fuzzyheart by his side this time, which tended to make him a little more confident than usual. Peach straightened his shoulders, padding out into the center of the church and clearing his throat. He had an alliance to announce.
"Cats of Absum Lux!" he declared, gaze sweeping across the cats scattered around him. Some looked intrigued, others scared, and others seemed downright angry. Not a great start, but hey, they'd been through a lot. He was pretty sure most of them had already heard the news that there was a new heda in town, although he couldn't be certain if they were taking the news well or not. Wanheda wasn't sending a bold of lightning down from the sky to kill him, so Peach had to imagine the coalition's god was pretty chill about it too. "I have an announcement to make!"
Emile lazily looked over towards Peach, her head tilted. She had assumed that he would make this announcement before long, and she couldn't say she was necessarily surprised. After all, in her opinion, it would have been rather dumb for the gang to settle for the city if not to overthrow its government. Why subjugate yourself to the rule of a king when you could be the king? Macnamara had asked her that when she first decided the duo was going to align themselves with Peach. Why lose autonomy if one didn't have to? Of course, it had been a good question. She didn't have a clear answer to it at the time that she asked Peach to join the ragtag gang. She just felt that it was the wise decision at the time. When Peach decided he was to be the new Heda of Absum Lux, she had spent more than a moment gloating. See, she had murmured to her brother, I told you I had a feeling that this would be in our best interest. He still hadn't believed her. After all, now they were just combatants, just faces in the crowd. Silly brother, we are faces that Peach recognizes. We cannot pretend that that will be of no use in time.
"Looks like today is the day," she murmured in her soft sort of way. She then let out a sigh, before looking at the tom who sat next to her.
He was much less relaxed than Emile was. Where she laid casually on the pavement, the tom sat erect. He was always alert, always watching. Perhaps it was paranoia that spurned such behavior. After all, he did seem rather on edge all of the time. Someone had to be on edge, though, and it surely wasn't going to be his sister. She had never been keen on such behavior, calling Macnamara too proper to get anything done. He was the brawn to her brain, though, and she had long since given up on trying to get him to loosen up. He felt her paw nudge his side and his eyes narrowed.
"It's about time," he grumbled. "By now, the whole group already knows. Surprised they haven't put a hit on him yet."
Emile sighed again, clicking her tongue. "Always so negative, brother, always so negative. They haven't killed him yet, so the likelihood they will is small. It was actually quite smart of him to test the waters and let the cats come to terms with it on their own before forcing them to, hmm?" With that, she looked back to Peach, curious to see how he would handle the situation at hand.
Chiharu who had come into camp right about the time the announcement was made came to site where cats were gathering. Her own preconceived notions about the new Heda and what he had to say were positive, but it made sense for them to be so. Peach was, after all, the mate of her Uncle, and she allowed her respect for Fuzzyheart to be passed on to the same tom who had won his heart and presented him with such a brave and honorable name. She watched with attentive interest, curious enough to be drawn in but not overly eager. She figured it couldn't be any sort of emergency, or she was sure she would have heard about it sooner. She liked to be kept to date about these sorts of things as much as possible, it was rare for anything of incredible importance to slip under her radar.
Leonix was in fact the exact opposite, completely out of every possible loop. The caretaker took a moment to make sure that the older sucklings who were curious had taken a seat, and that the younger ones were busy in their own little world of youth a fun, oblivious to important group matters, before taking a seat among the crowd. Physically he was present, but he was admittedly wholly disinterested in what the Heda had to say. He knew for a fact no suckling were old enough to be promoted, and if it didn't involve the youngest members of their group he basically considered it a matter that didn't really concern him.
