Desertkit yawned and uncurled in the nest, it had been hard to sleep with the new additions in the nursery, they made so much noise when they were born and it made her wonder if she had been so noisy when she was born and how many cats she kept awake with her at the time. "The tom looks like you Deerpaw." She spoke as she padded groggily to her sisters side and looked at the two kits, the she-cat though looked nothing like her mother and Desertkit began to think if that is what their father looked like.

Sandkit tottered over to see the new arrivals. It wasn't that long ago she and her siblings were the new ones in the nursery. Her older sister, Deerpaw, was there with the new kits. Did that make them her brother and sister too? she wondered as she peered over the top of the nest to watch them.
Stonefang entered the nursery with two plump mice dangling by their tails from his mouth. He placed one near Deerpaw and then the second one next to Berryfrost. "Eat. Both of you need to keep up your strength."

Desertkit looked up at her father and smiled, he was so kind and had been taking care of Deerpaw since she had her kits as well as making sure her mother Berryfrost was also comfortable and fed. "Dad!" She squeaked out the word as she ran to him. "I wanna be like you when I get bigger and help as much as I can!" She was looking at him with shimmering eyes.
Mudkit lay curled at his mothers belly, her warmth surrounding him and lulling him until the squeak of Desertkits mew rang in his ears. He let out a grumble and curled up tighter against Deerpaw and his sister Morningkit, everything was too loud in his ears.
Berryfrost was grateful that he mate was stepping up and helping not only her and their new kits, but their daughter and her small family as well. SOmeone needed too and there was only so much she could do alone. "Thank you." She hoped he knew she meant for more than the meal.
"He sure does, doesn't he, Desertkit." He son did look like her, and her daughter like Morningpaw. It'd been why she'd named her little girl after their father. Though she hoped she wasn't as cruel as her lover had been. Deerpaw still couldn't believe the sweet tom had changed so suddenly on her.

"You're very welcome," Stonefang replied to his mate before looking over at one of his newest daughters, Desertkit. He smiled at her comment. "Thanks, that's a great compliment. I'm very honored you said that," he purred. "I'm sure you'll be a huge help to our clan when you grow up." He tussled her head fur with his paw. "You've already got a head start with an attitude like that."
He stretched his legs carefully in the confined space of the nursery. "Is there anything either of you need before I go on patrol?" He gave Berryfrost a loving lick on her cheek.
Deerpaw smoothed her son's fur in an attempt to comfort him. He seemed distressed by the noise, or maybe just at the thought of waking up, some kits were like that. They wanted to stay awake longer but then sleep in. Though, the apprentice saw that in warriors too. "Do you wanna share my food, Desertkit?" She hated to move, but there was no way she'd be able to eat in the nest. Pulling herself away from the two slumbering kits, she inched just out of it to eat.
Toadstream entered the den, his gaze resting on the sleeping kits and a purr rumbled in his throat. He gave his father a nod in greeting and nuzzled Deerpaw. "How are they?" he asked, his voice a little more than a whisper.

Desertkit turned from her father at her sisters offer to share. "Sure! But you get most of it, you have babies to feed now." She trotted to her sisters side and sat down waiting for Deerpaw to take a bite first.
Mudkit purred at his mothers touch, but it stopped suddenly as she moved away leaving him and his sister in the nest. The tabby toms eyes shot open and he lifted his head as a shiver flowed through his pelt at the sudden lack of warmth. "No." It was all that came out as he turned his dull blue eyes to his mother and Desertkit.
That was fine with her, besides, Desertkit wouldn't eat much. Turning to her brother, Deerpaw let a soft smile grace her lips. "They're good. Sleeping at the moment, but I'm sure they'll be awake soon." Speak of it and it shall happen, it seemed like Mudkit was waking up.

Sandkit watched as her father, Stonefang, left the nursery. She was glad he was her father then she looked over at her mother Berryfrost. She was truly blessed to have such a wonderful family, she thought. "Mama?" she asked as she came closer to Berryfrost. "I wanna help too. What can I do?"
“Well, we need to clean up some?” Her tone was teasing, kits hated to clean up and she knew it. But she hoped they would help clean, especially since they’d be apprentices soon. Berryfrost couldn’t believe the trek had just flown by, that her little ones would be apprentice age already! Now all she’d be in the rudert for would be to visit Deerpaw and her grandkits.

Sandkit sighed realizing that she couldn't back out now that she offered to help. "Okay," she mewed less enthusiastically than before. "What needs done? New bedding?" She sniffed at the old moss and wrinkled her nose. It was beginning to smell sour.
