Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Squirrelleap had given Wildpaw some time to recuperate from being held prisoner for so long.
It had been a long time since he'd seen the young cat. And he'd like to think he'd taken the young cat's advice to heart. Even though it had broken his... when the tom he'd been waiting for hadn't shown up. But he had Robinegg now. And that was nice enough right?
The light brown tabby tom shook his head driving out the thoughts as he padded into the apprentice den, "Hey, Wildpaw." he called out. "Time to get up. Gotta get you caught back up on your training."
"Great. Hope this training does better than it did with my last mentor," he answered cheerfully from inside the den. That was mostly a joke - his last mentor had been his mother, Shiverstar - but he did hope this ended with him being promoted instead of as a prisoner. Either way, he would enjoy spending time with Squirrelleap; he was sweet and friendly, and he had made good company last time they met.
Wildpaw slipped from the apprentice's den and padded toward his mentor with a friendly smile. Old enough to be a warrior if it wasn't for his lacking training, the young tom was slender enough to look tall despite being a little shorter than average. His bones were still visible beneath his light-toned fluffy coat, but he was looking far better than he had before. He looked more mature, but hardly older, his features too soft and rounded.
Squirrelleap chuckled, "I don't know if I can measure up to your mother, but we'll make a warrior out of you in no time." He assured the young cat, "What are you feeling like working on for today? Since it's the first day of training I'll let you pick." He said whiskers twitching. "Least till I get a feeling for what you need to work on."
He was glad to see Wildpaw was looking better but his bones were still visible, and the last thing he wanted to do was push his apprentice too hard. Best to let Wildpaw set the pace they went at, at least until he started regaining some mass.
"I can already tell you what I need to work on - fighting. If I learned anything from WinterClan, it was that I really don't know anything about combat. Oh, and that the mountain is ridiculously cold." He shook his head, fur rising at the thought of it. "But as long as I'm choosing.... I don't really want to get pounded to dust my first day back at training. I'd rather gather moss, to be frank."
"Believe me, I'm not a fan of the cold either. I like a nice moderate climate really." Squirrelleap said. "Cold makes it dangerous to well leap from trees, which is how I like to hunt and get a birds eye view." He noted with a bit of pride. "Can't really do that in the winter time."
"I'll definitely keep in mind that we should focus on battle training, but for now we'll take it easy. Fetching moss is a good start, help you get re acclimated to the territory." Squirrelleap said flicking his tail for Wildpaw to follow as he headed in the direction of the river. "Plenty of nice places to get moss."
Wildpaw nodded, listening. There would be less cover in trees once the cold came as well, at least, in the conifers once they shed their leaves. He liked to keep his paws on the ground while he was hunting so he didn’t have to worry about slipping and falling, but he admired a cat that moved as naturally above the ground as he did upon it, graceful as a squirrel.
“Besides, this will make all of the other apprentices love me,” he added jokingly as he followed after his mentor. Few cats liked to gather moss, so if he volunteered for it he was sure the others would appreciate it. They might call him a suck-up, but in time they’d learn he just liked to help others, and even if they did mistrust his motives he doubted anyone would complain.
(Ack! I'm so sorry I haven't replied to this in so long T.T)
Squirrelleap chuckled, "That they will! Most young apprentices want to be doing all the exciting new things first rather than do their chores, so you'd probably earn yourself several friends that way." He said lightly as he led Wildpaw along.
"Maybe I should clean the nests in the entire camp, then," he mused with a twitch of his whiskers. "Can't have anyone thinking I've gotten lazy! Even if it is true," Wildpaw added with a wink.
