"Not so many anymore," Crowflight replied with a hint of sadness in his voice. "Let's see ... there's Pantherclaw, my mother, and Skycloud is a distant cousin." He pawed up some more seaweed and set it aside. "It's just the three of us that's left. Of my siblings, some died in the battle with NightClan while others have just disappeared. We clan cats live a hard life. Not many live to be elders it seems. But Gentlebreeze, my grandmother lived a long life. She passed in her sleep last leafbare." His attitude turned more solemn as he thought about the family members he'd lost.
"So what about yourself?" he asked turning the subject back to Sunpaw. "Do you have a lot of family?" He never could keep up with all the family ties of his clanmates.

It must be nice to have everyone in the same place, she thought. When Crowflight returned her question, she just gave him a smile before shaking her head. "Not really," she admitted, "or at least...I'm not sure. You've met my brother, and well...I know I had an adopted dad before Howlingheart, you know? I just don't remember his name and I don't remember where he went...but I also had a sister once! She was a lot older than me...her name was Charlotte, I think."
It wasn't much to go off from, but part of her wanted to know, wanted to know what her mother and her father looked like, wanted to meet all the cousins and siblings and everything else...and another part was terrified. What if they didn't want to meet her? What if they met in the heat of a battle? She wasn't sure how she'd deal with that at all.

He nodded his head as Sunpaw spoke. "I remember," he said. He did remember meeting her brother - he would never forget that harrowing night when SummerClan regained their freedom from NightClan's oppressive paw. It was while they were racing to the shore she ran into some relatives.
"I too have family I've never met and probably never will. One of Pantherclaw's uncles moved to Waterclan and became mates with their leader. And they had several litters from what I've been told. My mom met a few while she was still young but hasn't seen any of them since. Do you want to meet Charlotte some day?" It didn't bother him in the least whether or not he met any of his long lost relatives since they'd be strangers to him.

Crowflight's question really made her think. "I don't know," she admitted, a quiet chuckle leaving her mouth, more out of the awkwardness of not knowing than anything else, "I guess part of me...maybe? I just...what if they don't want me, you know? I mean...they left me here when I was younger, so it's kind of hard to imagine that they'd want to see me again, I guess I just don't want to be disappointed in seeing them. If I'm really excited to meet my relatives and they're all trying to kill me or something again, I don't think I'd be able to survive that again."
She blushed, feeling embarrassed about what she had just admitted. "I don't know, would you want to meet any of your distant relatives? I'd be really self conscious if they were all cooler than me," she joked, though her smile was a little muted.

Crowflight nodded as Sunpaw spoke about meeting long lost relatives. Considering her history with them, he'd understand why she might not want to meet them.
As for his relatives, "I don't know really," he admitted. "They'd all be strangers to me not having grown up in SummerClan, you know. I guess I wouldn't go out of my way to meet them but if I did run into them, I'd be cordial if they were cordial too. If they greeted me with teeth and claws, they'd get the same from me." He then realized that he wouldn't know an obscure relative if one came up and batted his nose. The only way he'd know was if they sat down and had a long discussion about genealogy. However, he doubted that would ever happen.

She smiled briefly at that; she supposed that it was all the same for her. "I mean, in the end we sort of make our own families, right?" she spoke, her expression wistful, "eventually your family is just you and all the cats you care about. SummerClan's my family, you know? Or at least, it feels like it is. I'd probably be really different if I didn't end up here meeting everyone, including you." She gave the tom a sunny smile, as she continued to grab the last bits of her seaweed. "I'm glad we ended up here in SummerClan and not anywhere else, aren't you?"

Crowflight nodded his head in agreement. "Well said," he replied. "I couldn't have said it better myself. SummerClan is my family and I'm glad you're a part of it." But a thought saddened him a little. He was getting close to Sunpaw but her paws were on a path that was different from his even though they belonged to the same clan. She was going to be a medicine cat while he was a warrior. With a shake of his fur, he tried to rid himself from the gloomy mood that suddenly came to him. We can still be friends though, he thought, his mood lifting again.
Picking up the rest of his seaweed, he said though a full mouth, "Is this enough? Should we go back to camp or look for more fairies?" He had a playful look in his eyes.

She smiled at him; it was nice really, having friends like this. Turning back to their task at hand, she glanced at their stack of rolled up seaweed; it was certainly more than she had hoped to collect. It'd be enough for a while at least, and with her little experiments here and there, it was always good to have extra.
"Yeah, I think so," she replied with a determined nod, before giggling at his comment. "Maybe, but you know what they say, you see more magic when you're not looking for it." She gave him a wink as she grasped the bundle in her jaws, tilting her head towards camp, as if asking him to lead the way.

Crowflight returned her wink and smiled at her comment. It was difficult to speak with a wad of seaweed clamped in his jaws. He led the way back toward the camp. There was a glad feeling in his heart as he walked. He was happy they were able to spend this time together.
(Would you like to time jump to the present when Sunpaw is Sunveins? Or would you rather end here?)
