"And that's why," she finished dramatically, "you NEVER leave camp alone."
Honeykit and Galactickit were staring at her with owl-like eyes, their pelts fluffed up in distress. "Woah!" Honeykit mewed, "I had no idea, Wiltedlily!" The two kits exchanged glances and bounded off, calling the names of their siblings and friends so they could spread Wiltedlily's cautionary tale.
The young white cat felt satisfied, sure that she'd just saved a life by sharing the story with kits. That was how Wiltedlily was useful to her clan now. Since her accident, about thirteen moons ago, the she-cat hadn't even been outside of camp. Instead she'd leaned into her role as an baron and had taken to trying to scare the younger cats into behaving. The she-cat felt largely useless, but perhaps by making sure history didn't repeat itself she could give back to the clan now cursed with caring for her.
Feeling unusually glum, even for her, the small white cat sat down outside the baron's den, her face turned toward the warm sun and eyes closed.
It didn't take that long for Glaniur to pick up on the stories going around through the kits, and he was simultaneously amused and disappointed. Adventuring by himself was the thing that Glaniur did most, always wandering through other clans before finding a place to settle for a little bit. So, he slunk up behind Wiltedlily, curious on the one who had started the stories. "You're scaring all of the young with lies, you know," he said, his clear gaze on the she-cat for a moment before switching to a group of kits. "Not that I care about them, of course, but they're certainly going to have a hard time as apprentices if they're afraid of going out."

Wiltedlily looked up at Glaniur and stood up, rolling her eyes and feeling defensive. "I'm not telling any lies, they should know the danger." And the world was full of danger, that much she would absolutely promise. "Would you prefer a bunch of bird brained apprentices getting themselves killed?" The young cat didn't personally know this cat, but instantly decided she didn't much like him. "I do care about them," she finished, "perhaps you should too."
Glaniur rolled his shoulders, turning his gaze back to Wiltedlily. "Haven't you ever head the saying?" he asked, ignoring the last part of what the she-cat had said. He wasn't going to care about kits anytime soon. "How did it go again? 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger'?" His lips separated into a grin, although his mind had momentarily gone back to the moons of abuse he had endured. "Haven't you ever thought that you might be suffocating them? Making it harder for them for when they have to face reality and they're not prepared, because they have been avoiding the world?"

"They'll be safe and WinterClan will have more soldiers," she responded with irritation, feeling her fur fluff up the angrier she became. Her mangled leg was causing her to feel unbalanced and she sat again, feeling sour about having to sit in the presence of this cat. "It doesn't always make you stronger, you know," what hadn't killed her had simply stolen her happiness and her future. What kind of cat would she be if she just allowed kits to make the same stupid mistakes as her?
They were both trying to speak from experience, and Glaniur doubted that he'd be able to change the young elder's mind, but he wasn't going to be the one to walk away from this. "Ah, that's another thing you're wrong about, you see," he said. "It gives you experience, doesn't it? And experience makes you wiser. Wisdom is a form of strength for the mind, isn't it?" The tactician could see the discomfort in her eyes as she sat down, and he felt a form of satisfaction that she didn't want to sit in front of him. So, he paced in front of her.

Wiltedlily glared at him as he spoke, tail twitching in irritation, "Wisdom means nothing if you aren't useful to WinterClan," she reminded him. "WinterClan needs teeth and claws, not brains and stories. And I will gladly be a part of making sure our kits survive to be soldiers. I care about them, I want them safe in camp and then safe out in the territory." The she-cat wondered why exactly Glaniur seemed so... careless about the kits. Shouldn't he be cheering her on? Her cautionary tales were good for him too, more soldiers meant less chance of losing in battles, she was keeping WinterClan strong. she is so deluded oh boy
