Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sunpaw wasn't all too familiar with the other apprentices. He knew a couple of them, Netherpaw and Crowpaw mostly, but other than that? Everyone was always busy doing this or that or going here or there, she rarely had time to meet up with the others. She was almost excited to be assigned with another apprentice to go on a little hunting venture, a little test to see how their training was going along.
Waiting by the entrance, she looked around excitedly for the other apprentice she was joining today. Still young and new to this training, she wondered if she'd be able to catch anything at all today.
Vulturemalice had no idea why Ratstar thought this would have been a good idea, sending him out with a warrior apprentice. Sure, all young cats needed to learn what herbs were good and what were bad, he just wasn't in the mood today and had the slight feeling that Sunpaw didn't know what she was doing today.
With his head held low, Vulturemalice stalked over to the young she-cat with his ears turned back and tail tip flicking. "So," he said while clearing his through, giving the young she-cat a glance. "You're going to assist me with herb gathering today." Across his back, held by a tangle of vines, was a small, hollowed-out log. The faint smell of various herbs came from it, saps and smears coloring the entrance.

Sunpaw was surprised that she was actually assigned to another warrior. Huh, so maybe she had heard wrong, but hey, it didn't matter much to her. She could remember being in the same den as Vulturemalice just a couple of moons ago. "Cool," she nodded brightly, undeterred by the other cat's less-than-pleased expression. She had no idea what herbs were needed here or there–usually it was the gardenkeepers who did the more flowery stuff–but it wouldn't hurt to learn.
"What are we collecting today?" she trotted alongside the other cat, "what does it look like? Does it have a funky smell? What does it do?"
"With leaf-fall coming, I need to stock up on some herbs that are useful for respiratory infections and coughs. Ratstar wants the apprentices to learn so that when you're all out hunting and whatnot, can come back and tell me if you've located a patch of something useful," Vulturemalice said in a long sigh, trudging his way out of camp. "Catmint, coltsfoot, feverfew, things that that. When we come across them I'll point them out to you and show you how to gather each properly."

She nodded brightly, trotting alongside him. All of the names meant nothing to Sunpaw, but surely, this was all an opportunity to learn, and she had to admit, there was a love of flowers within her. The fields of golden grass with the bright white flowers scattered amongst them all...it was a pretty sight and she had yet to learn how to braid them into little flower crowns like the gardenkeepers knew how to. She had been tempted to ask a few of them, perhaps she'd do that later.
"So what's it like being a warrior now?" she asked brightly, looking up to the other tom, "it must be so cool, now that you've got your full name. Do you get to lead patrols now?"
"Well I wouldn't know anything about being a warrior since I switched over to being a medicine cat apprentice early on in training," Vulturemalice said, giving the young cat a glace through the side of his eyes. "Though I'm sure you're learning a lot. The most I got through was fighting, never got the hang of hunting. Though I can track herb scents through a storm and fog."

She gave him a sunny grin. "You know, I prefer fighting too," her eyes gleamed mischievously, "I mean hunting's fun and all, but wrestling with the other apprentices is pretty fun, and they're all a handful anyway." She really did enjoy her warrior duties, but she was always curious to everything going around her. "So how do you scent out herbs anyway? Do they smell as strong as mice or something? Isn't that kind of like hunting?"
Her curiosity sparked something in the young medicine cat. "Sorta, when the wind blows right I can get a whiff of their scents. All herbs have different smells, just like prey does. It also helps to know about the different kinds of terrain that the herbs grow in." He continued on, pushing past browning bracken, listening to the leaves of the few trees that dotted SummerClan territory begin to fall. "There are herbs that thrive in different seasons as well, or herbs that work best with dried and dead. Like poppy for example, all we use of that are the seeds."

"Really?" her wide eyes were looking up to his with a wide-eyed look of awe and admiration, already bouncing on her paws. "Poppy flowers are so nice though...I guess it's good they're useful. What kind of herbs do you smell right now?" She could smell the trees and the ferns, but she couldn't tell anything else. All of this was fascinating to the bright young she-cat.
Pausing for a moment and parting his jaws, Vulturemalice felt the cool tang of mint on his tongue. "There's watermint growing over by the creek, but I knew it was there already," he said with a small grin, not like his normal grumpy self. Taking Sunpaw out with him made the young tom imagine having an apprentice of his own. "Hows warrior training going?" he tossed over his shoulder and he took off in the direction of the scent, his muddy brown and white pelt disappearing into the brush.

Sunpaw's ears perked as Vulturemalice gestured towards a certain direction, awe written across her face. "That's amazing," she gasped, her tail lashing in excitement, before grinning at Vulturemalice's question. Well you had to ask; it was fortunate that Vulturemalice was unaware of Sunpaw's habit of never shutting-the-hell-up, because certainly if he did, he would've never asked.
"It's been really cool actually! I got to see all of the territories and SummerClan is sooooo pretty, there are so many flowers everywhere and I was helping one of the garden keepers with their flowers once and I was the guard! Isn't that the coolest? I felt like I could protect them and if any cat tried to hurt them, they'd have to go through ME! Also I learned how to swim, which is...well, I'm not sure if I like swimming a lot yet, sometimes it makes my fur feel gross and seawater tastes really bad...but also it's really nice when it's hot and..."
She blabbered on for a while, before turning to Vulturemalice with a sheepish smile. "Sorry, was I talking too much? Everyone says I always talk too much."
The young tom listened to the apprentice drone on, her voice like the humming of the bees in the background. It was nice in a way, almost peaceful. Soon the sound of the river mixed with the voice and became almost harmonious. He felt the ground underpaw become damp, the mud cool against his pads.
"You're fine," he assured the she-cat, "I'm just happy that someone is willing to talk to me for this long." He gave a small chuckle through a slightly curled lip. Spotting the watermint, he gave a small trill of triumph. "You know what watermint is good for?" he asked over his shoulder, sniffing at the fragrant herb.

She giggled at his words. "I'm sure you're more popular than you think," she snorted, before giving him a bright smile, "and you're a good listener, so I'm sure that's popular with all the ladies....or the toms, I don't know which way you swing so..." Was that too rude? She wasn't sure, but she had a tendency to just say whatever was on her mind after all.
"Watermint? I'm not sure, is it for when you get scratches? Or you know, kitten cough or something? It's not for the queens, right? I know sometimes they eat those herbs before they have kits..."
