Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. Yarntangle laid out in the sun, watching the world around her in her new clan. The curly furred cat was soaking in all the sights around her, excited to be apart of this wonderful clan experience. She was still getting used to this new way of life, and not looking at it as an outsider, but as one of the members of the community. Memories of her live before flitted through her mind at almost all hours, and she was trying not to compare her new life with her old one.
Her entire life, she'd watched the adventures of others from her seat on the couch, and this was the first time she was living her own. Everything about this fascinated her, from the ranks to the Starclan stories, to learning about all the other clans. Yarntangle was still looking for more out of this though. She wanted friends, she wanted to someday have kittens. She wanted everything.
Vulturepaw had been watching the she-cat ever since she had been accepted into the Clan, the scowl almost permanent on his muzzle. The young tom stared at her now, eyes narrowed as he looked her over. She had yet to visit the medicine den. What if she had some weird kittypet sickness that they didn't know about yet? What if she brought some strange sickness that only kittypets carried to the Clan? Should I say something to Greythorn? The though burst constantly through the young medicine cat apprentice's mind.
He wasn't aware that his paws were moving until he found himself a few tail-lengths away from the she-cat. "Um, hello," he said gruffly, looking down as his scuffling paws. They were stained green from dealing with herbs all day, bits of them stuck to his claws.
She brightens up as the other approaches her, her hazel eyes conveying joy. Yarntangle was an interesting looking cat, definitely one of kittypet blood. She had waves in her fur, not quite curls, in a light creamy color. Hoisting herself up, she sits on her haunches, her tail flicking lazily back and forth.
"Hi!" Yarntangle grins, fur nearly bristling in excitement. "You're part of the medicine den right? You get to talk to Starclan?" Her eyes widened. Yarntangle was obsessed with Starclan and all the stories surrounding it, and she soaked it all in like a sponge. She was a young cat, hardly out of the apprentice ages, but too old to have entered the clan as one. Little did she know Vulturepaw thought she was carrying some sort of illness, she just wanted to make friends with the connection between the clan, and Starclan.
His ears turned back at her enthusiastic approach towards him, not used to the barrage of questions. Vulturepaw took a small step back, his tail sweeping low. "I'm Greythorns apprentice, yes," he replied with a small nod, ears skill pressed to his skull. "I've only just stared so I haven't had the chance to commune with our ancestors yet, but I'm sure they're there." Vultuerpaw had tried to be a warrior at first, training for the first six moons after having been made an apprentice, but it was clear the path of the warrior was not for him. So he was a little older for an apprentice, having the lean body of a young warrior rather than a scrawny apprentice. Though he was still skinny, and his smokey brown fur was thin, he was still and slightly imposing figure, despite his slender frame.
“Oh! That’s too bad. You’ll have to tell me when you do get to talk to them!” She grins, the opposite of the tom before her, oblivious to his obvious discomfort. Yarntangle had also been an only cat in her home, never quite learning the language of how other cats spoke to each other. Especially not through body language. “Wow, it must be sooooo cool to be in the medicine den, I bet it smells nice all day. I like lavender!” She rambles on, still unknowing to the fact Vulturepaw was not having her excitement. “I’ve never had to go in yet because I haven’t gotten hurt or anything but I don’t really wanna battle yet! I don’t wanna hurt anyone.” She flexes her claws, pink paint chipping off from where her twoleg had painted them before she’d run off. “I have the sharpest claws on the block... ‘least that’s what Serena would tell me.” Yarntangle’s name fit her, her conversations run on and on without any clear end or beginning.
Vulturepaw just sat there blinking, his ears back and eyes wide as she she-cat droned on. Never having been one to be known as being nice, when Yarntangle finally stopped talking, the medicine cat apprentice looked her up and down and meowed curtly, "You talk a lot." He wasn't trying to be rude, more like just stating a fact.
Yarntangle tilts her head, hazel eyes slightly amused. If she talked a lot, she wondered if anyone else talked more than she did. But she doesn’t voice this thought, not quite ready to go into another rambling session. “I do?” Yarntangle purrs in amusement, settling on a question rather than a long winded response. “Maybe you just don’t talk very much.”
Vulturepaw had opened his mouth to give a reply but then snapped his jaws shut, unsure of how to answer. I mean, she is right, he thought with a scowl, turning his eyes from the she-cat. "If I don't have anything worthwhile to say, I try my best not to talk," he answered with a flick of his ears.
Again, Yarntangle grins. “Glad to see you found me worthwhile to talk to then.” The cream she-cat winks at the scowling tom, shamelessly flirting. She had learned about the warrior code recently, so she knew that the medicine cats could never take a mate. That didn’t necessarily mean she couldn’t tease him a bit though. “What’ve you been up to today?” She asks with a tilt of her head, glancing at his green-stained paws.
Heat rushed his cheeks at the implications of her tone, causing the young tom to duck his head. He wasn't used to this kind of attention from anyone, let alone a she-cat. Taking the vow had been easy to him, being one that didn't even know his sexuality to begin with, let alone how anyone would make him feel.
"Not a lot," he replied, shuffling his paws. "Just going over all the old herbs and throwing them out, seeing which ones I need to gather."
She giggles, watching how flustered the tom cat got. She didn’t actually mean anything behind her flirting, but it was fun nonetheless. “How’s the herb stuff going? What exactly does that entail?” She was curious, and if Vulturepaw hadn’t talked to Starclan yet the very least she could learn was about his day to day duties.
“If you need any help finding herbs I’d like to help!” She seems to have a never ending smile, never ending energy.
Shrugging, Vulturepaw went over the herbs in his head. "With leaf-fall coming up, that means coughs and chest infections will start so I need lots of juniper and even catmint, which is hard to get because that's in the twoleg place," he said through narrowed eyes, not looking forward to the stinking stench of greencough.
"Oh, I can go to the twoleg place easy." The cream cat tilts her head, tail tip twitching as she thinks for a minute. "I know where hundreds of those catmint patches are." She wasn't lying. Almost all of the twoleg gardens had some, plus the community garden near her old home. "We just would have to go at night when no one's around. Easy peasy!"
Vulturepaw perked up at that. "Really?" he asked with a tip of his head. Part of him wondered if he should check with Greythorn first, but the other part of him wanted to impress his cranky mentor by coming back with loads of the fragrant herb.
